Marc-Antoine Bérubé has been named the new executive director of the Montreal-based Baseball Academy of Canada (ABC).
He takes over for former big league pitcher Jesen Therrien (Montreal, Que.), who has decided to focus on making a major league comeback.
Bérubé, who owns a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Therapy from Concordia, has served as ABC’s director of performance in recent years. He has spent countless hours setting up daily schedules for the players.
Yannick Desjardins will serve as the director of player development under Bérubé.
The 29-year-old Therrien, who was in charge of the ABC program for the past year, will remain in a supporting role with the organization. But he plans to put his energy into making a return to Major League Baseball.
He underwent a second Tommy John surgery in 2021 and is now 100 per cent recovered.
The Montreal-born right-hander posted an 8.35 ERA in 15 relief appearances for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2017. Prior to that, he had registered a 3.25 ERA in 175 minor league appearances over parts of six seasons in the Phils’ organization.
