Canada to open World Baseball Classic action on March 12

OTTAWA - The fifth edition of the World Baseball Classic (WBC) is set for March 2023 and Canada is set to take on Pool C starting on March 12 (Noon MST) where they will play a qualifier team before facing USA on March 13 (7 p.m. MST), Colombia on March 14 (Noon MST) and Mexico on March 15 (Noon MST).

Pool C of the 2023 World Baseball Classic will be hosted at Chase Field in Phoenix, Ariz., the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The first round of the tournament will feature a round-robin format with the winner and runner-up nations moving forward to a Quarterfinal round where they will join the top two nations from Pool D.

The top two nations from the Quarterfinal round will move onto the Semi-Final round to determine the two nations that will battle for the world title. Both Semi-Final and Final rounds of the 2023 World Baseball Classic will be played at LoanDepot park in Miami, Florida from March 19 - 21.

Canada holds a 2-5 record against the known nations in Pool C with wins over the defending champions, the United States (’06) and Mexico (’13), while suffering losses to Colombia (’17), Mexico (’06) and the US (’09, ’13, ’17).
