Official Toronto Blue Jays News Release

The Toronto Blue Jays have agreed to terms with OF Kevin Kiermaier on a one-year contract (US $9,000,000).

Kiermaier, 32, batted .228 in 2022, with eight doubles, seven home runs, and 22 RBIs in 63 games for the Tampa Bay Rays, being limited by a hip injury in the second half of the season. The 6-foot-1, 210-pound left-handed hitter was drafted by the Rays in 2010 and made his debut with the club in 2013. Kiermaier has earned three Gold Gloves and one Platinum Glove while keeping a .988 fielding percentage in his 10 seasons patrolling the outfield. Over the course of 914 career major league games, the native of Fort Wayne, Ind., has batted .248, with 273 extra-base hits and 112 stolen bases.

“Kevin is a terrific addition to our already strong roster. As we focus on improving our team heading into this offseason, Kevin checked a lot of those boxes,” said Ross Atkins, EVP of baseball operations & general manager. “His handedness, defence, elite baserunning, and clubhouse presence make him a great fit for our team and we are excited about his contributions next season.”
