The Swift Current 57’s of the Western Canadian Baseball League (WCBL) have named Tim Brown as the team’s new head coach.
“We are very excited to have Tim as part of the Swift Current 57’s organization,” stated the baseball club’s director of baseball operations Brad Woods.
“He comes to us very highly recommended within the baseball community. He appreciates the culture we have created here and knows about the winning tradition of 57’s baseball and has a good understanding of the league, and the challenges related to summer collegiate ball,” added Woods.
Ryan Switzer, the president of the 57’s, said it has “been a great experience” getting to know their new skipper.
“Tim has accomplished great things in baseball and in life. He brings great energy and knowledge. I’m looking forward to having him be part of our community, not just at Mitchell Field, but Swift Current as a whole,” said Switzer.
Brown, who is from Newport Beach, Calif., is also excited about the new opportunity to coach in the WCBL.
“The 57’s organization has been a model of stability over the years in one of the oldest summer collegiate leagues in North America. There is rich history of championship baseball in Swift Current and now Ryan and Brad have afforded me the opportunity to become part of that baseball legacy, and for that, I am very grateful”, said Brown.
Brown’s baseball coaching resume dates back to 1978. He has experience in the Cape Cod League, NCAA, the United States Baseball Federation in Ecuador, the New England Collegiate Baseball League, the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and most recently as head coach/director of baseball operations of the Orange County Riptide of the California Collegiate League.
This will not be Brown’s first stint north of the Canada/U.S. border. He was an assistant coach with the Kelowna Falcons of the West Coast League in 2020 and 2021.
“I believe the summer college baseball experience is a tremendous growth opportunity for the collegiate athlete. As a coach, I want to help ensure our players continue develop as young men and as players in their short time with the Swift Current 57’s and in the Western Canadian Baseball League. My goal is to help provide a memorable summer for both our players and the community while adding another exciting chapter to the long-storied history of summer collegiate baseball in Swift Current,” concluded Brown.
