April began with a bang.

Canadians were making an impact all over the field for their college teams as the calendar flipped to a new month.

Let’s take a look at the top performers.

Leroux named American Athletic Conference Player of the Week

Brando Leroux (Markham, Ont.), of Florida Atlantic University, picked up the American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honour after he had eight hits, a walk, three RBIs and two stolen bases in four games. In a series sweeping Game 3 win over East Carolina, he swatted a solo home run.

Does the headline need anymore details?

Right-hander Blake Gillespie (Lucan, Ont.) has made regular appearances in this column all season. Last week, he tossed six innings and allowed an unearned run on two hits as the University of North Carolina Charlotte took Game 1 of their series with Wichita State by a 7-1 score. Gillespie walked three and struck out nine to improve to 4-3 with a 3.44 ERA and 0.95 WHIP over a team-leading 49 2/3 innings.

Green hits grand slam

A lack of wins for Niagara University wasn’t due to a lack of production from Jason Green (Georgetown, Ont.). The former Terrier had six hits, a walk and nine RBIs for the Purple Eagles in a three-game series against Quinnipiac. In a 14-10 Game 2 loss, he hit a grand slam and a three-run home run as part of an eight RBI game. Unfortunately for his team, they were swept.

Consigli wins in relief

Peyton Consigli (Fonthill, Ont.) spun seven innings in relief for Canisius as they downed Marist 11-2 in Game 1 of a three-game set. Consigli gave up an unearned run on three hits and four walks, while striking out nine to pick up his first win of the season.
