TORONTO – Alejandro Cazorla had a big evening to lead Alberta Red to a 5-4 victory against B.C. Orange on Friday night at Tournament 12 in the Rogers Centre.
With two hits, one walk, an RBI, and two stolen bases, Cazorla was a key player in Alberta’s (1-1) comeback.
But he’s happy just to be at the tournament.
“Unbelievable experience to be here today,” he said, afterwards. “I feel like any kid my age would kill to be here, I’m still in shock.”
And humble.
“I just wanted to help the team,” said Cazorla. “I always go out there and play my best, trying to give 100 per cent, and I’m happy we won today.”
Justin Breen made a major contribution to the win, banging a triple in the second inning and later scoring his team’s first run. He also added a single later in the game.
After a slow start going down 3-0, Alberta may have feared a repeat of their last performance Thursday against Ontario Black, when they lost 6-1, only recording one hit. Not this time.
Right fielder Daniel Martin had a strong performance for B.C. Orange (1-1) as he hit a two-run single in the first inning.
Also contributing was Ryan Beitel, who legged out a triple, as well as Jude Hall who had two stolen bases on the evening.
B.C. still has other three games to play on Saturday and Sunday, while Alberta Red has two since they already played on Thursday against Ontario Black.
