Canada to play Cubs, Mariners in exhibition games prior to WBC

Canada will play the Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners in exhibition games prior to the World Baseball Classic.

Major League Baseball announced details about each team’s pre-World Baseball Classic schedules on Thursday.

The Canadian team will arrive in Mesa, Ariz., on Monday, March 6 and their first team workout will be the following day.

Canada will compete in Pool C against the United States, Mexico, Colombia and Great Britain.

They will begin their first round on March 12 against Great Britain prior to facing the United States on March 13, Colombia on March 14 and Mexico on March 15.

The games will be played at Chase Field in Phoenix, home of the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The first round is a round-robin format with the winner and runner-up teams advancing to the second round where they will compete against the top two nations from Pool D, which consists of Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Dominican Republic, Israel and Nicaragua.
