Right-hander Tate Carey (Windsor, Ont.) made his first career college start and was it ever one to remember.
He took the ball in the University of Michigan’s midweek game against Akron and delivered a seven-inning no-hitter to lead the Wolverines to a 13-0 win.
The former Great Lake Canadian issued just one walk and struck out four.
The no-no was the first for the Wolverines since 1994.
It’s the second no-hitter by a Canadian this season, after University of North Carolina at Charlotte right-hander Blake Gillespie (Lucan, Ont.) tossed one back on March 7 against James Madison.
But Carey wasn’t done, as he worked five more scoreless innings in a 10-0 win over Mount St. Mary’s on Sunday. He allowed three hits and struck out seven in his second start of the week.
In 12 appearances in 2025, Carey owns a 6-0 record with a 4.33 ERA over 27 innings.
Tate Carey is the Canadian Baseball Network College Player of the Week for April 7 to 13.
