First baseman Matt Lloyd collected hits in all five of his games with the triple-A Memphis Redbirds last week.
In total, between April 22 and April 27, the Okotoks, Alta., native went 8-for-17 (.471 batting average) with a double, four runs and six RBIs.
For his efforts, he has been named the Canadian Baseball Network’s minor league Player of the Week.
The 29-year-old started the week with a three-hit game - including a two-run double in the fourth inning - to help the Redbirds to an 8-3 win over the Norfolk Tides on Tuesday. He followed that up with a single in each of the Thursday and Friday contests against the Tide.
He added two hits and an RBI in the Redbirds’ 5-4 win over the Tide on Saturday and a single and two walks on Sunday.***
In Worcester’s 20-7 win over the Red Wings on Friday, Toro, batting cleanup and starting at second base, went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and four RBIs.
The versatile Canuck added a double on Sunday when he started at third base.
In all, in 18 games in triple-A this season, Toro owns a .344/.429/.594 slash line. He has 22 hits - including six doubles, two triples and two home runs - to go with nine walks and 12 runs.
