CBN POW Week X - Damiano Palmegiani
June 14, 2022

When the Toronto Blue Jays scout selected Damiano Palmegiani in 2018, the evaluator pronounced his name properly, however, he mangled the name of his school -- Vauxhall Academy.
Such is life when you are a 35th rounder. The Jays pronounced both his name and school properly in 2021 when they selected Palmegiani in the 14th round of the 2021 amateur draft from the College of Southern Nevada.
Here is how the Lakeland Flying Tigers pronounced Palmegiani’s name ... it went like this “Who is that guy and how hot is he?”
Palmegiani had 11 hits batting .450 against the Tigers with two homers and four RBIs to earn Canadian Baseball Network Player of the Week honours. He was the best of the 130 players in the minors.
How the week that was went for Palmegiani as he ...
_ Batting third and playing third, he had a pair of hits in a 4-2 loss before 245 fans at the TD Ballpark. Palmegiani hit his 11th double in the first inning, a double to right -- No. 11 -- and singled to left leading off the fourth.
_Playing third and batting third he doubled in a 11-3 loss against Lakeland in front of 160 fans. He doubled to left in the first innings, his 12th of the season.
_ DHing and batting third, he went 3-for-5 with two RBIs in a 12-5 romp over Lakeland before 297 fans. Palmegiani singled on a line to centre in the third, doubled to centre -- No. 13 -- knocking in a pair of runs in the fourth and singled to left in the five-run sixth.
_ Playing third and hitting third, he was hitless in a 7-1 loss in front of 260 fans.
_ Went 3-for-4, including a solo homer in an 8-1 win against Lakeland before 745 fans. Palmegiani reached on an infield single in the first, hit his homer, his 10th, to left in the fifth and doubled to left in the seventh, his 14th.
He is hitting .261 with 14 doubles, a triple, 11 homers, 36 RBIs and an .883 OPS.
Offensive Highlight _ On June 11th in an Ottawa Titans 13-0 victory over the Empire State Greys, Jake Sanford had a night he will not soon forget. In four at-bats, he had four base hits, three runs scored, two home runs and a remarkable 10 runs batted in. The 10 RBIs tied an IND Frontier League single game record which had been set in 2019.
Sanford also enjoyed an excellent week for the Titans, one in which he had nine base hits in 15 plate appearances, for a batting average of .600. As a result of his prolific offensive production, he was named IND Frontier League Offensive Player of the Week.

Curtis Taylor (Port Coquitlam, BC) was selected by Washington Nationals from the Toronto Blue Jays in the 2021 MLB Rule V Draft and no doubt, he’s hoping a new opportunity might develop into a more direct path to the big leagues. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury in early spring and was inactive, until the Nationals sent him out on a rehab assignment in Week VIII, with their Single A affiliate Wilmington Blue Rocks in the South Atlantic League.
In Week IX, he was moved up to Double A Harrisburg Senators in the Eastern League, and had an excellent week with two solid relief appearances. On June 8, in a 6-2 win over the Bowie Baysox, he pitched two scoreless, while striking out two Bowie hitters, and earned his first win of the season. He followed that up on June 11 in a 2-1 win over the Baysox again throwing two more zeros, surrendering one hit while striking out two, but was not involved in the final decision. As noted above, his record with Harrisburg in two relief appearances is now 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA.
Cade Smith RHP - A Lake County Captains
GM W SV ER ERA H IP K WHIP
2 1 - - 0.00 - 3.0 8 0.000
Cade Smith (Abbotsford, BC) continues to be a key factor in the success of the Captains bullpen, and this week he made two more very good relief appearances. On June 9, in a 5-4 loss to the Ft. Wayne TinCaps, he pitched one scoreless inning, striking out three Ft. Wayne batters, but was not involved in the decision. On June 12, in a 5-3 win over the TinCaps, he threw two scoreless and didn’t allow a hit, while striking out five hitters, to earn his second win of the season. His overall record in 18 High A Midwest League appearances for Lake County, now stands at 2-0 and five saves, with an excellent 2.61 ERA.
To this point in 2022, his 18 game appearances and five saves both rank him tied for third place among in the Midwest League.
