This is not a repeat.

Repeat: this is not a repeat.

As it appeared on these pages a week ago ...

The Great Lake Canadians and London Badgers grad, Adam Hall, is the Canadian Baseball Network’s minor league player of the week for Week XXI.

Only the number of the week has changed.

Like a week ago when Hall (London, Ont.) hit .455 (10-for-22) for the class-A Aberdeen Ironbirds, leading all Canucks with 13 hits.

This week Hall had 13 hits to bat .464 (13-for-28) with two RBIs. OF Jonathan Lacroix (Montreal, Que.) of the Houston Astros system, who is at class-A Quad Cities and Vlad Guerrero (Montreal, Que.) the Blue Jays top farmhand who is now at triple-A Buffalo knocked in seven runs apiece.

From Aug 6-28, Hall ran off a 19-game hitting streak batting .460 (29-for-63) with one homer and 12 RBIs. Hall’s consecutive-game hitting streak is the second longest streak in
the minors for a Canadian this year. Only by Raphael Gladu (Trois Rivieres, Que.) in the New York Mets system at class-A Quad Cities ran off a 23-game streak from May 9-June 9.

Scouting director Gary Rajsich selected Hall in the second year of the 2017 draft.

Despite constant change in his pitching schedule, resulting from three emergency call ups to the big league roster by the Chicago Cubs and the associated optioning back to Iowa, plus a brief stint on the disabled list, Rob Zastryzny has been able to maintain a remarkable level of consistency this year.  He’s been used both as a starter and a relief pitcher with Iowa, and this week had two very good outings.  On Aug. 22nd in a 3-2 loss to Colorado Springs Sky Sox he pitched three scoreless innings, gave up two base hits while striking out five Sky Sox batters, but was not involved in the final decision. On Aug. 27 in a 7-6 loss to the Omaha Storm Chasers he threw 1 2/3 allowing two hits and one unearned run while striking out two Omaha batters but again, was not involved in the decision.   His overall record with Iowa Cubs in 31  Pacific Coast League appearances, now stands at 3-2 with a 3.83 ERA.

Curtis Taylor continues to pitch very well for Montgomery, and this week made two more solid relief appearances. On Aug. 23, in a 4-2 loss to Chattanooga Lookouts he pitched 1 2/3 innings, without allowing a hit while striking out two Chattanooga hitters, and was credited with his second hold of the season. On Aug. 28th in a 3-1 win over the Tennessee Smokies he threw two scoreless innings while striking out three Tennessee batters, to earn the save. His record with Montgomery in 28 Double A Southern League appearances, now stands at 3-4, with two holds plus five saves, and a 2.34 ERA.

Overcoming adversity is a prerequisite for any pro pitcher, and of course the adversity we’re talking about is a a stint on the disabled list. Dylan Rheault was just activated
by the San Francisco Giants on Aug. 19th, from a stay on the disabled list which lasted for seven weeks, and recent results indicate he’s regaining his form.  This week he made three relief appearances, the first on Aug. 22nd in a 13-3 win over Visalia Rawhide when he pitched one scoreless inning, gave up one hit while striking out one Visalia batter, but was no involved in the decision.  On Aug. 24th in a 13-7 loss to Modesto Nuts he threw a scoreless 1/3 of an inning, allowing two hits but again, he was not involved in the decision. On Aug. 26th in a 7-5 loss to Modesto he pitched another scoreless inning, for the third time this week and was not involved in the final decision. These three outings improved his California League overall record in 23 appearances, to 2-3, with three saves and a 2.10 ERA.
