COBA Major League Week V Recap

By Dan Estey

COBA Major League

It was a light week for the Milton Red Sox in COBA Major league action as the club only had one game on the docket. They hosted the Oakville A’s at the Milton Sports Complex for the first time this season.

The Sox got on the board first in this game as they plated single runs in both the first and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead. The A’s would storm back though as they scored a run in both the fifth and sixth to tie the game. That was short lived though as Milton pushed three runs across in the bottom half to take a 5-2 lead after six innings.

The Sox added another pair of runs in the eighth to take a commanding 7-2 lead to the final frame. Oakville wasn’t going to go quietly into the night though as they touched up three Milton pitchers for six runs and had an 8-7 lead going to the home half of the ninth. The Red Sox would get to the A’s closer though for a pair of runs and escape with a 9-8 victory in the game.

Zero K Bats Player of the Week Brandon Chong led the eight-hit attack for Milton going 3-for-4 with double, a run and six RBIs. Liam Butchereit was 2-for-4, while Sean Alp was 1-for-1 with three walks, an HBP and an RBI. Nick Tiensovan was 1-for-4 with an RBI.

Vic Christensen had a pair of hits, a walk and a run while Danny Roderick also had two hits and collected an RBI to lead Oakville at the plate.

On the hill, Chris Cloes started for Milton and gave them a quality start in picking up the no decision. He went seven innings allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits. He walked one batter while striking out nine. MacKenzie Storey followed him to the mound a toss a clean inning of relief, allowing no runs and no hits while walking one and striking out one.

Liam Carey started the ninth inning throwing 2/3 of an inning allowing four runs on two hits while walking one. Rhys Tapper followed him to the mound and couldn’t record an out, allowing four runs (two earned) on one hit. He hit a batter and walked two.

Tiensovan came in after him recording the final out of the game to earn the win. Paul McKenna started for Oakville going five innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He hit two batters, walked five and struck out three. Matt Chismore, the third of three A’s arm, took the hard luck loss.
