Troy Coffin threw the final pitch of the Kings County League Intermediate league championship on Sept. 17, 2020 as the Morell Chevies beat the The Alley Stratford Athletics 5-0.
And Coffin threw the first pitch thrown in anger in the Dominion of Canada for 2021 in a 2 o’clock Sunday afternoon start on May 16 at Church Field, in Morell, PEI.
Like last year, Coffin wound up with the win as the Morell Chevies edged Peakes Bombers 2-1. PEI was the only province to declare provincial champions in the shortened COVID season last year.
On Opening Day in Canada, he allowed a run on four hits in six innings for the win. Logan Gallant registered the save.

Jack MacKenzie took the loss after allowing two runs -- one earned -- in six innings, fanning six.
Coffin, was 41 when the Chevies won last fall, according to Jason Malloy, SaltWire Network sports editor, adding Coffin has been in the league since 1996 when he played with the Pisquid Vipers. After the Vipers folded he joined the Chevies in 1998 and has been with Morell ever since.
The Chevies took the lead in the bottom of the sixth as Dylan McKenna walked, was bunted over by Stephen O’Shea and scored on a single by Logan MacDougall, who went 2-for-2.
The Bombers tied the score 1-1 in the sixth when Dillon Doucette and Rob Phelan hit back-to-back singles with Doucette scoring on an error. The game was scoreless until the fifth as Chevies’ Duncan Picketts reached on a walk and eventually scored on a passed ball.
The Chevies, sponsored by a local Chevy dealership in the late 1970s, which long since been gone, but the team has kept the name and won the league championship eight times between 2000 and 2010, but had not won since until 2020.
