TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Owen Diodati (Niagara Falls, Ont.) delivered a two-out, two-RBI double late in the final frames of Alabama baseball’s Fall World Series to give Crimson the 8-6 win on Friday at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
In a game that began 6-4 with Thursday’s score carrying over into Friday, the two teams began day two with very little from the bats. Connor Prielipp started for the Gray squad, tossing four innings while allowing only one hit and striking out a series-high seven batters. Antoine Jean (Montreal, Que.) countered for Crimson, tossing four scoreless and striking out four in the process.
The Gray squad was able to fight for two runs late, evening things up at six apiece. Crimson then came up an inning later, getting runners aboard for Diodati. The freshman delivered in a big spot, sending a two-RBI double deep to centre to score two and put his team in front for good.
Diodati highlighted the Crimson offence while Bryce Eblin finished his day 1-for-2 with a double, a run scored and two walks to pace the Gray hitters.
With the final game of the Fall World Series complete, the Crimson Tide officially wraps up its fall practice schedule. Alabama will return to the diamond in January to begin preparations for the 2021 season.
