The Toronto Blue Jays have re-signed left-hander Robbie Ray to an $8-million contract for the 2021 campaign.

Ray, 29, has appeared in parts of seven seasons since breaking in with Detroit in 2014, posting a cumulative ERA of 4.26 while striking out 1042 of the 3646 batters he’s faced at the MLB level.

Over that 842 1/3 inning stretch, the 6-foot-2 product of Brentwood, Tenn., has allowed just 123 home runs, but has struggled with control, issuing 401 walks along and tossing 38 wild pitches in 161 games.

Joining the Blue Jays via a trade with Arizona last August, the former All-Star and National League Cy Young candidate (2017) pitched to an overall WHIP of 1.742 while allowing 11 earned runs in 20 1/3 innings with Toronto in 2020.
