OTTAWA – Three-time National Team member Brock Dykxhoorn was given the “Outstanding Player Award” after leading the Uni-President 7-ELEVEN Lions to a seven-game series win over the CTBC Brothers in the Taiwan Series, the top prize Chinese Professional Baseball (CPBL).

The Goderich, Ont., native tossed scoreless frames in the eighth and ninth innings to earn the save in the seventh and deciding contest as the Lions came all the way back from a 3-1 deficit in the series to capture the crown.

The Lions handed the ball to Dykxhoorn for game one and the 26-year-old hurler delivered six innings of one run ball before going the distance in a complete-game shutout in game five that brought the Lions to within two games of clinching the title.

In total, Dykxhoorn worked 17 innings in the Taiwan Series and allowed just one earned run en route to capturing the Outstanding Player Awards for the series.

After spending the 2019 series in the KBO (Korea Baseball Organization), Dykxhoorn signed with the Lions midway through the 2020 campaign and instantly became a key piece of their starting rotation.

Standing an imposing 6-foot-8, Dykxhoorn made his National Team debut in 2012 with the Junior National Team program and helped Canada to a silver medal later that year at the IBAF U18 Baseball World Cup in Seoul. In 2015, he was a member of Canada’s squad that won gold at the Pan Am Games in Ajax before participating on Canada’s entry at the Premier12 in 2019.

Following stints at the University of West Virginia (2013) and Central Arizona College (2014), Dykxhoorn was selected in the sixth round of the 2014 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros where he spent five seasons in their minor league system.
