WINNIPEG, MB – Winnipeg Goldeyes’ outfielder Max Murphy has been named the American Association’s Batter of the Week for June 7 to 13.

In five games, Murphy was 11-for-19 (.579) with four runs scored, three doubles, a triple, two home runs, and six RBIs. The Robbinsdale, Minn., native is currently riding a nine-game hitting streak that stretches back to June 2. Murphy is batting .329 for the season in 22 games, and is tied for third in the American Association with seven home runs.

The 28-year-old outfielder signed with the Goldeyes in January after spending most of the past three seasons with the St. Paul Saints. Murphy has a .310 average with 61 doubles, 36 home runs, and 155 RBI in 228 American Association games. In 2019, Murphy’s contract was purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks where he reached rtiple-A for the first time in his career.

Murphy was originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins in the ninth round in 2014 out of Bradley University in Peoria, Illinois.

Murphy is the first Goldeye to receive a league honour this season.

The Goldeyes will continue to monitor the reopening of the Canada/US border and assess a potential return to Shaw Park in 2021.
