Gomm named Terriers' Player of the Week

For the second time this season, Parkland College infielder Austin Gomm is the Terriers’ College Player of the Week.

Gomm's offensive performance led the Cobras to five victories.

It all started with a 3-for-3 game with two home runs and six RBIs in a 14-3 victory to open a four-game series against Spoon River. He followed it up by going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs during a 15-0 Game 2 win.

Game 3 saw him go 3-for-4 with another home run, two RBIs and a stolen base in a game the Cobras won 8-0.

Gomm legged out two doubles, a triple and drove in a run as his team secured the sweep with a 12-2 victory in the finale.

The former Junior National Team standout is hitting .528 with 10 doubles, five home runs, 17 RBIs and a 1.038 slugging percentage in 17 games.

Honourable Mentions

Ben Abram was back on the bump in Game 2 of No. 15 Oklahoma State University's series with Baylor. Abram threw 6 1/3 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits to pick up his fourth win of the season. He walked two and struck out 10.

The Michigan Wolverines opened Big Ten play with a three-game sweep of Penn State. Connor O'Halloran got the ball in Game 1 and delivered eight innings. The lefty gave up four runs on eight hits, while walking two and striking out seven.

Infielder Zach Marriott and the Warriors of Hendrix College took part in the Studer's Blue Wahoo Challenge in Pensacola, Fla. Marriott had three, two-hit games, walked once and drove in a run out of the leadoff spot as his team went 3-1.

Matt Ward fuelled the Niagara University offence with three hits, a walk, four RBIs, a stolen base and was hit by a pitch as the Purple Eagles swept a three-game series from Saint Peter's to begin Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference action.

Owen MacNeil tossed two scoreless innings of relief with a strikeout as the University of Charleston shut out West Liberty 14-0. He followed up that outing with another 1 1/3 scoreless innings in a 12-3 victory over Fairmont St. The right-hander allowed a hit and struck out two.

Kyle Nash helped D'Youville get off to a strong start as he picked up the win with a scoreless 1/3 of an inning, striking out the only out he needed in a 7-4 win over Gannon.

Righty Sam Worthen worked 2 2/3 innings of relief for D'Youville in a 7-5 Game 4 win over St. Thomas Aquinas. He surrendered two hits, two runs, walked two and struck out three.

Allan Hancock summoned Lucas Earle out of the bullpen in a midweek contest against Ventura. Earle threw three scoreless innings, working around three hits and a walk in an 8-5 loss.

Tyler Offman spun a scoreless inning for New York University in their 11-6 Game 2 loss to Emory.

Freshman Hugh Pinkney had a hit, a walk and drove in a run in Rutgers’ 4-2 win over Rider.
