TORONTO - The Toronto Maple Leafs have re-signed veteran pitcher Marek Deska.

Deska (Cambridge, Ont.) started his Intercounty Baseball League career in 2006. He has also pitched in the Dutch Major League, for the Polish National Team and for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues.

Deska owns a career IBL record of 45-31 and is 11th all time in IBL appearances (135), 12th in innings pitched (627 2/3) and ninth in strikeouts (576).

Last season, Deska went 2-0 with a 3.64 ERA in 10 games with 32 strikeouts in 29 2/3 innings.

“I love Marek, I have competed against him since his days at U of T, and I have a tremendous amount of respect for him,” said Leafs GM Jeff Lounsbury. “He understands pitching, he understands the game, and he still loves to compete and he is doing it still at a very high level. He gives us a chance to win every time he has the ball and he can teach our young pitchers so much about pitching and being a pro.”
