Official Canisius Athletics News Release

Canisius junior Max Grant was named to the 2023 Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-America Second Team, Collegiate Baseball announced Monday.

Grant, the 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Player of the Year and a 2022 All-MAAC Championship Team selection, is one of two players from the conference to be tabbed as Collegiate Baseball Preseason All-Americans. Rider's Brendan O'Donnell was also recognized as an outfielder on the third team.

Grant led the conference and ranked among the top-15 players in the nation with a .398 batting average last season en route to earning All-MAAC First Team honors. He paced the circuit with 90 hits, the third most in a single-season for a Canisius player in program history. Grant also hit 10 home runs, drove in 53 runs, scored 56 runs, slashed .398/.489/.646 and was successful on seven of his eight stolen base attempts.

The Fredericton, N.B., product hit .440 (10-of-18) with six RBIs during the conference's postseason tournament last May, helping the Golden Griffins capture their fourth MAAC Championship title in program history. He went on to be named the 2021-22 Canisius Male Athlete of the Year, the highest individual award presented to a Canisius student-athlete, and he was recently honoured as the second baseman on the Canadian Baseball Network All-Canadian First Team.

Canisius went 29-25 overall and 15-9 in league play last season, the program's ninth winning campaign in 11 years. The Griffs will return 28 letterwinners from last season's roster.
