The Okotoks Dawgs celebrated Christmas in July at Seaman Stadium on Friday and although there were gifts, snow, and Santa, the Dawgs fell just short, losing 2-1 to the Sylvan Lake Gulls.

With the loss, the Dawgs’ record drops to 27-9 and they are now two games behind the Gulls (30-8), who sit atop the Western Canadian Baseball League’s West Division standings.

Jarrett Burney (Reinhardt University) and Barry Eiseman (Reinhardt University) both went 2-for-4 for the Dawgs, while Lou Anderson (Montreal, Que.) knocked in the Dawgs’ only run with a single in the ninth.

On the mound, Brock Townsend (Bellevue University) got the start and hurled eight strong innings, allowing just two runs on five hits, while striking out three, but he was saddled with a tough-luck loss

The Dawgs return to Seaman Stadium on Saturday to take on the Brooks Bombers.
