Official Barrie Baycats News Release
The Board of Directors of the Barrie Baycats have announced that Josh Matlow has been appointed the team’s president.
Matlow succeeds David Mills, who announced his retirement following the 2021 Intercounty Baseball League season. During Mills’ time as president, which began in 2002, the Baycats won seven IBL championships, including six consecutive titles from 2014 to 2019.
Originally hired in early 2020 as the Baycats general manager and field manager, Matlow is a veteran of the Baycats’ organization. A former player for the team from 2005 to 2009, he was also a volunteer for the team during 2019.
“I am extremely honoured and humbled to take over the reins of president of the Barrie Baycats Baseball Club,” said Matlow in a statement. “I promise to continue to make the organization and the entire Simcoe County region proud.”
“I am very excited for my family to be a part of Baycats baseball and for my kids to grow up around the ballpark for decades to come. I want to especially thank my supportive wife, Sasha.”
Acting Board Chair Chris Gariepy stated that after an exhaustive search the board was very pleased and they have complete confidence in having Josh lead the organization into the future.
“I am confident that Josh has the skills and energy to successfully address the many facets of the Baycats president position for years to come,” said Mills.
“The Baycats have developed a unique positive culture over 20 years that includes the great support of our volunteers, members, sponsors and, of course, our fans. I am pleased that Josh has accepted the reins of this remarkable organization and will enjoy watching Josh continue to build on the team’s many successes.”
