HAMILTON, Ont. – After finishing 19 games back of Guelph in the regular season, the Hamilton Cardinals are one win away from eliminating the Royals from their IBL quarter-final.

They will have the opportunity to do so at Hastings Stadium in Guelph on Tuesday.

Ryan Burnside went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run for the Cardinals in Sunday’s 7-4 win at home.

Hamilton scored six times in the fourth inning and didn’t look back. Laine Renaud and Jacob Underwood each had a pair of hits and an RBI, Jeremie Veilleux went 2-for-4 and scored a run, while Dennis Dei Baning, Luis Jean, Robin Fox-Pappas and Maclean Van Raay all drove in a run.

Cardinals’ starter Corben Peters was lifted with two outs in the sixth after giving up four runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts. Daury Torrez fanned four over the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing only one hit, for the save.

Conner Morro went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run for the Royals. Dalton Pompey singled twice and drove in a run, and Justin Interisano and Brendan Keys each had an RBI.

Brandon Deans was touched up for six runs on six hits over three innings.
