Official Ottawa Titans News Release
Ottawa, Ont. - Ottawa Titans outfielder Jake Sanford has been named the Frontier League’s Player of the Week for August 23 to August 28.
The native of Cole Harbour, N.S., went 13-for-24 with four homers, 10 runs scored, and seven RBIs in five Titans’ wins this past week. He had at least two hits or more in four out of the seven games, including multi-homer performances at the plate on Friday and Saturday against Empire State. Sanford took home Player of the Week honours earlier this season (June 7 to June 12) after tying the Frontier League's single-game RBI record with 10.
Through Sunday's games, Sanford is hitting .317 in 86 contests with 20 homers and 70 RBIs.
The 24-year-old Sanford is in his third season of professional baseball after being selected in the third round by the New York Yankees in the 2019 MLB Draft. Sanford hit a career .267 with 23 homers and 88 RBIs in 161 minor league games, reaching High-A last season.
Sanford stands alongside infielder Jackie Urbaez (Player of the Week June 28 to July 3) and left-handed pitcher Whitby, Ont., native Evan Grills (Pitcher of the Week July 5 to July 10) as Titans to have won league honours this season.
The Titans finish the home portion of the regular season with three against the Trois-Rivières Aigles starting Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. from Ottawa Stadium.
