Official Hamilton Cardinals News Release

The Hamilton Cardinals have signed Jacob Underwood (Hamilton, Ont).

Underwood is a 6-foot, 220-pound catcher who plays at Brock University. He spent 2021 playing for the Welland Junior Jackfish while also competing in a few games with the Intercounty Baseball League’s Jackfish.

“Jacob got his feet wet in the IBL last summer, so I think the transition will be smooth,” said Cardinals GM Jeff Lounsbury. “I have seen him handle fouir games in a weekend at Brock, and I have seen how he handles a pitching staff, hits and plays defence. I am glad that he has returned to his Hamilton roots because I think he will contribute right away and have a long IBL career. Our catchers are all young, but they have all got some IBL experience already and it will be great competition.”

Underwood is looking forward to playing in his hometown.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to come back to Hamilton to play baseball,” said Underwood. “I grew up playing here so to be able to continue my career in the same uniform that I wore growing up is a cool experience for me. I am excited to get out on the field.
