Official Hamilton Cardinals News Release

Hamilton, Ont. - The Hamilton Cardinals will retire Dean Dicenzo's No. 13 jersey on Sunday, May 21 before their game against the London Majors.

Dicenzo, a Hamilton native, played in the Intercounty Baseball League for 19 years, most of them with Hamilton. He was a fan favourite for his exceptional play on the field and his commitment to the Hamilton community off the field. Dicenzo ranks second in all-time IBL hits with 594 and is in the top five for games played and stolen bases.

"We are honoured to retire Dean's jersey and recognize his significant contributions to the Hamilton Cardinals organization," said Cardinals managing partner Eric Spearin. "Dean has been an outstanding ambassador for the league, our team and the community. He will always be remembered as one of the best players to ever wear a Cardinals uniform."

Dicenzo, who now serves as a special advisor to the Ontario Terriors baseball program, expressed his gratitude for the honour.

“Having my jersey retired is a huge honour, very special as it’s the first jersey retired in club history," said Dicenzo. "It’s nice to be recognized for my efforts on and off the field to promote Hamilton baseball. The club is on the right path to consistently field a competitive team in years to come. I hope my jersey isn’t the only one retired, there are many players deserving on this special event."

The retirement ceremony will take place prior to the start of the game and fans are encouraged to arrive early to take part in the jersey retirement celebration. The first 300 fans in attendance will also receive a commemorative Dean Dicenzo No. 13 t-shirt.
