Official London Majors News Release
The London Majors are pleased to announce the signing of Brad Verhoeven, a key player on the St. Thomas Tomcats ballclub that reached the Canadian championship at the junior level.
Primarily a catcher, the local product has the ability to play both corner infield spots as well.
Verhoeven, who will turn 23 prior to Opening Day, is a St. Thomas native who recently attended Fanshawe College in London, where he played two seasons for the Falcons’ varsity squad. In the fall of 2021, he hit an even .300 with 10 RBIs in 12 games (40 at-bats).
In 2022, the 6-foot-1, 160-pound Verhoeven enjoyed an even better season, batting .357 with a .451 on-base percentage, 13 runs scored and 12 RBIs in 15 games. He also managed a homer and five steals. At the OCAA championship event, he was named one of five tournament all-stars.
“Brad is a hard-working kid that loves the game. He’s a character guy,” said Roop Chanderdat, the Majors’ GM and field manager. “He was around the team last year as an AP player and gained valuable experience. This year, he’ll help out behind the plate and he can also play the corner infield.”
When he wasn’t with the junior Tomcats last year, Verhoeven got into 23 games with the Majors. He hit .224 in 49 at-bats while scoring eight times, driving in four and going deep once.
“I’m excited for the opportunity to play full-time for the Majors this summer,” said Verhoeven. “Roop is putting together a great team here that will battle to bring the championship back to London.”
