Baxter, Leblanc, Ross propel Team Red to win at Women's National Team Selection Camp

Team Red made it two in a row with a 9-6 win over Team Black in the second intersquad game of the Women’s National Team Selection Camp in Ottawa on Friday.

Team Black fell just short of a comeback, despite outhitting their opponents 10-8.

Andréanne Leblanc (Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Que.) continued to swing a hot bat at camp, collecting two RBIs as she picked up two hits in three at bats. Emily Baxter (Oakville, Ont.) and Kaitlyn Ross (Redcliff, Alta.) were clutch for Team Red, producing four RBIs at the bottom of the lineup.

Madison Willan (Edmonton, Alta.) and Alizée Gélinas (Trois-Riviéres, Que.) both finished with 2-for-3 performances with a pair of runs scored. Gélinas also drove in a couple of runs, joining Sophy Gagne (Sainte-Martine, Que.) who also drove in two for Team Black with her 1-for-2 performance.

Juliette Lajoie (Sainte-Brigitte de Laval, Que.) was the starter for Team Red, allowing a pair of earned runs on seven hits and no walks. Tess Sawkins (Victoria, B.C.) threw 1 2/3 innings of relief for Team Black, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out one.
