Luther, Zdunich lead Dawgs to 13-3 win over Beavers

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Weyburn Beavers 13-3 on Wednesday night to earn their 25th win of the season.

Solid pitching and offence allowed the Dawgs to gain an early lead and hold on for the victory. The Dawgs now own a 25-8 record and remain first in the west division.

Bobby Vath turned in a solid performance, tossing six innings and allowing one run, earning his third win of the season to remain undefeated. Relief efforts from Quinn Tocheniuk (Okotoks, Alta.), Sam Stuhr and Seth Thompson (Calgary, Alta.) kept the Beavers’ offence quiet.

The Dawgs’ offence was led by Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) and Alex Stufft who both had three hits and two RBIs on the night. Ricky Sanchez and Tucker Zdunich (High River, Alta.) both had two hits and two RBIs in the contest. The offence had a major eighth inning where the Dawgs put up six runs to blow the game open.

The Dawgs will take on the Beavers on Thursday night to continue their three-game homestand.
