Official Okotoks Dawgs News Release
The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Moose Jaw Miller Express 12-3 on Tuesday night, to go up 1-0 in the best of three final series.
The Dawgs’ offence got off to a hot start early and never wavered as they applied constant offensive pressure. Pitching and defence limited Moose Jaw’s offence as the Dawgs remain undefeated in the playoffs at a perfect 5-0.
The Dawgs’ offence was led by Micah McDowell (Kentville, N.S.), who kickstarted the offence with a homerun in the first inning that scored two runs. McDowell would finish the game 3-for-5 with three RBIs and scored two runs. McCoy Pearce (Kamloops, B.C.) went 3-for-5 with three RBIs while Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont), Ricky Sanchez and Alejandro Cazorla (Okotoks, Alta.) each had one RBI in the Game 1 victory.
Ryan McFarland (Calgary, Alta.) started on the mound and had an excellent game earning the win, tossing seven scoreless innings and recording five strikeouts. Relief efforts from Connor Robbins (Calgary, Alta.), Sam Stuhr and Brody Forno (Okotoks, Alta.) shut down Moose Jaw’s offence, as the Dawgs take Game 1 at home.
The Dawgs will travel to Moose Jaw for Game 2 of the WCBL Finals which will be played on Wednesday.
