Ontario Terriers go 5-3 to open CPBL play

It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for. The Ontario Terriers put two teams on the field this past weekend to begin Canadian Premier Baseball League play.

The 15U team took three of four from Team Ontario, while the 16U Terriers split their four-game set with the Toronto Mets.

15U recap

The offence came to play for the 15U Terriers as they scored 49 runs in four games.

Lee Jones and Marc Nellis led the offensive charge for the blue and gold.

Jones went 5-for-11 with a pair of walks and and four RBIs.

Nellis put together a 7-for-12 weekend. On top of the hits he walked twice, drove in four and swiped a pair of bases.

On the bump it was Luca Alagheband who stood out in Game 2. Alagheband tossed four scoreless innings and allowed a hit and a walk with four strikeouts. His effort earned him the win in the 8-2 final.

16U recap

It was a back and forth opening weekend series between the Terriers 16U and the Toronto Mets. The Terriers took Games 1 and 3, with the Mets striking back to win Games 2 and 4.

Lucas Alberti, Chris Dawidow and Jason Green powered the offence.

Alberti pounded out five hits, including a home run in the 6th of Game 2. He also walked twice and drove in a pair of runs in the four games.

Dawidow put up five hits as well to go along with a walk and a RBI.

Green left the yard in Game 1 and finished the weekend with three hits, a pair of walks and three RBIs.

On the mound Ansh Ghosh was outstanding in relief in Game 1. Ghosh allowed one run on two hits with a pair of walks and six punch outs in the 5-4 win. The hurler also hit a home run in Game 3 of the series.

Nathan Currah was stellar in Game 3. Currah lasted five innings and surrendered a pair of runs on four hits during the start. He walked three and struck out seven in a 13-7 victory.
