Official Ottawa Titans News Release

Ottawa, Ont. - The Ottawa Titans have signed outfielder Adam Fogel and left-handed pitcher Zach Penrod for the upcoming 2023 Frontier League season.

Fogel, 24, will hit the professional ranks for the first time with the Titans in 2023 after six successful seasons of collegiate baseball.

The Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., native broke out as a power threat at the University of Hawaii (Honolulu, Hawaii) for parts of five years, before finishing off at the University of Kentucky (Lexington, Kentucky) in 2022.

Fogel maintained a .288 average with 25 homers and 142 RBI in 229 career games from 2017 to 2022. A right-handed hitter and thrower, Fogel recorded an impressive 68 doubles in 865 NCAA at-bats. At the SEC tournament this past year, Fogel’s ninth-inning homer gave Kentucky some much-needed insurance to become the first 12-seed in tournament history to win a game, defeating No. 20 Auburn.

Penrod, 25, heads north of the border to join the Titans bullpen after appearing in 12 games last season with both the Boise Hawks and Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League. Across 22 1/3 innings pitched, Penrod went 1-2 with a 6.85 ERA — walking 14 and striking out 20.

A native of Nampa, Idaho, Penrod was a free agent signee of the Texas Rangers out of Northwest Nazarene University (Nampa, Idaho) in 2018. In college, Penrod was a two-way player throwing to a 1-1 record over 19 innings after a transfer from Corban University (Corban, Oregon) for his senior season. That year, the 6-foot-2-inch southpaw finished with a team-best 1.89 ERA prior to signing with the Rangers. He also led the offence with a .369 average at the plate, belting five home runs and driving in 34.

In other news, the club has acquired INF Kevin Rolon from the Sussex County Miners to complete the David Maberry trade from June 6.
