A few Phillies Leftovers
_ The World Series champion Houston Astros’ last three losses: Oct. 3, Oct. 28, Nov. 1 ... each to the Philadelphia Phillies.
_ By gaining the final wild card berth and playing Game 6 in the World Series the Phillies wound up playing 179 games, more than any team ever except for the Harlem Globetrotters.
_ Alec Bohm donated the bat he used in Game 2 to hit the 1,000th home run in World Series history to the Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY.
_ Most home runs, single postseason: 2009 Jayson Werth: seven (15 games) 2022 Kyle Schwarber: six (17 games) 2022 Bryce Harper: six (17 games) 2022 Rhys Hoskins: six (17 games) 2009 Chase Utley: six (15 games) 1993 -- against the Atlanta Braves and the Toronto Blue Jays -- Lenny Dykstra: six (12 games).
_ If you get to the World Series and lose, everyone will remember. If you don’t get there, no one will remember.
_ Bedlam at the Bank is the greatest memory from this season. Phillies took us on an emotional wild card ride to the World Series. Phans were phenomenal, so energetic and LOUD.
_ Phillies gave out between 375,000 and 400,000 Rally Towels. Averaged around 47,00 per game, plus the rain game where they had to quickly order more for the makeup the following night.
_ “The Phillies lifted the city and showed what teamwork and fortitude is all about. It’s up to us to take the lessons from the field and put them into our season of life,” Philadelphia Inquirer.
How is baseball played?
“You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that’s on the side that is in, goes out; and when he comes in and the next man goes in until he’s out. When three men are out, the side that’s out comes in; and the side that’s been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out. When both sides have been in and out nine times inclusion the not outs, that’s the end of the game,” article in a London newspaper from years ago.
