The Boston Red Sox have placed outfielder Tyler O’Neill on the 10-Day Injured List, retroactive to May 26, with right knee inflammation.
To fill his spot on the active roster, the club recalled infielder Enmanuel Valdez from Triple-A Worcester.
O’Neill, 28, has batted .236 with an .843 OPS and 11 home runs in 41 games this season while making 17 starts in left field, 14 in right field, and eight as the designated hitter. Originally selected by the Seattle Mariners in the third round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft, the Maple Ridge, B.C. native has batted .247 with 89 home runs and 234 RBIs in 518 career games with the St. Louis Cardinals (2018-23) and Red Sox (2024).
Valdez, 25, has played in 28 Major League games this season, making 26 starts at second base and has batted .156 with two home runs. The left-handed hitter has also played in 20 games with Worcester, batting .230 with an .887 OPS, six home runs, and 10 RBIs. Originally signed by the Houston Astros as an international free agent in July 2015, the Dominican Republic native has batted .224 with eight home runs and 30 RBIs in 77 games with the Red Sox (2023-24).
