Red Sox transfer Paxton to 60-day IL
The Boston Red Sox have transferred left-hander James Paxton (Ladner, B.C.) to the 60-day injured list.

BOSTON, Mass.—The Boston Red Sox have announced the following roster moves:
-Selected left-handed pitcher Joely Rodriguez from Triple-A Worcester.
-Optioned right-handed pitcher Greg Weissert to Worcester.
-Transferred left-handed pitcher James Paxton (Ladner, B.C.) to the 60-Day Injured List.
Rodriguez, 32, owns a 1.88 ERA and .157 opponent batting average with 13 strikeouts in 13 games for Worcester. The left-hander made Boston’s Opening Day roster this season and recorded a 6.55 ERA in 11 games from March 28 through April 26. Originally signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates as an international free agent in May 2009, the Dominican Republic native has posted a 4.82 ERA in 179 career games with the Philadelphia Phillies (2016-17), Texas Rangers (2020-21), New York Yankees (2021), New York Mets (2022), and Red Sox (2023-24).
Weissert, 29, has recorded a 4.10 ERA with 49 strikeouts in 47 games with Boston this season. The right-hander has also posted a 1.50 ERA in four games with Worcester. Originally selected by the New York Yankees in the 18th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the New York native owns a 4.29 ERA in 76 career games with the Yankees (2022-23) and Red Sox (2024).
Paxton, 35, was placed on the 15-Day Injured List on August 12 with a right calf strain. Acquired by Boston from the Los Angeles Dodgers on July 26, the left-hander is 9-3 with a 4.40 ERA in 21 starts this season for the Dodgers (18 starts) and Red Sox (three starts).
