Polk State Eagles’ LHP Thomas Ireland has signed with the Texas Rangers after the team selected him in the 13th round of this year's MLB Draft.

"It's a surreal feeling being drafted by such an iconic and successful franchise. It makes me feel like a winner already," said Ireland, a freshman from Regina, Sask.

"Signing is a dream come true, and I hope I can inspire the next generation of players from Saskatchewan and Canada as well."

In 16 games this season, Ireland went 6-4 with a 5.37 ERA. The lefthander walked 39 and struck out 85, averaging 12 strikeouts per game.

Ireland will play this summer for the Rangers in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League.
