Two national championships set to begin Thursday

OTTAWA – Baseball Canada National Championship season is about to kick into high gear on Thursday with the 18U and 13U National Western set for Fort McMurray, Alta., and Swift Current, Sask., respectively.

Ten teams are in Fort McMurray for the 18U Championship including host, Fort McMurray, in what’s one of Baseball Canada’s oldest events, dating back to 1969.

Fort Mac last held the event in 2018 where London (Ontario) took home the gold medal while Québec comes into the event as the defending gold medalists when it last took place in 2019.

Eight teams are in Swift Current for the 13U National Western Championships with two representatives from each of BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Teams from BC have won gold at this event dating back to 2015.

Both events get underway Thursday, August 18 with playoff and medal games taking place on Sunday, August 21.
