SAN JOSE DEL CABO, Mexico – The Junior National Team beat Peru 14-1 in their first game of the placement round at the WBSC Americas U18 Baseball World Cup Qualifier on Thursday.

This was the second time the two teams have met in the tournament, with Canada winning the first game 11-1.

Makaio Cisneros (Whitby, Ont.) started for the Juniors and allowed only one hit and one earned run, while striking out six, in five innings. The right-hander carried a no-hit bid into the top of the fifth before Kaedon Diego Mas Greenlee belted a solo home run to account for Peru’s only run.

The Juniors scored early and often, tallying 14 runs on 12 hits. Myles Naylor (Mississauga, Ont.) was a perfect 3-for-3 with two home runs, including a grand slam, and five RBIs. Ty Doucette (Dartmouth, N.S.) also smashed a two-run home run for Canada, while Ty Hamilton (Orleans, Ont.) collected three hits and drove in three runs.

Canada improved its record to 2-3. They will now face Cuba on Saturday for their last game of the placement round.
