Ward named Terriers' College Player of the Week

Matt Ward helped get the Niagara Purple Eagles back on track with a strong offensive performance last weekend.

Coming into their series with Marist as losers of five straight, Ward had five hits as the Purple Eagles took two of three.

The former Terriers catcher legged out a double and walked twice in a 23-12 Game 1 loss.

He hit a solo home run and finished Game 2 with two hits, a walk and two RBIs as his team evened the series with a 16-4 victory.

The rubber match, a 13-7 win, saw Ward double twice and draw a walk.

Honourable Mentions

Butler took their series against Georgetown 2-1 and Ryan O'Halloran had three hits, worked a walk and drove in four. He went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and four RBIs to power his team to a 20-7 Game 3 win.

Campbell Ellis earned saved No. 3 with four scoreless innings of work for Virginia Commonwealth University as they beat Davidson 9-4. He allowed three hits, walked three and struck out three.

Right-hander Sam Worthen picked up a win in relief for D'Youville University. Worthen threw four innings and gave up two runs (one earned) on five hits in the Saints 11-3 Game 4 victory over Staten Island. He walked one and struck out three in the outing.

Tyler Offman pounded out five hits and walked twice for New York University. He had three hits, including a pair of doubles in a 6-2 win over Russell Sage College.

Three-time Terrier College Player of the Week Austin Gomm continued his strong season with 10 hits, three of which were home runs, three walks and seven RBIs in six games for Parkland College.

Evan Harrison tossed 2 1/3 scoreless innings of relief, giving up two hits and walking one in Gannon's 7-3 loss to Indiana (PA). He struck out two Crimson Hawks' hitters.

Ben Abram started and threw two innings, allowing one run on four hits and a walk in No. 16 Oklahoma State's win over East Tennessee State.

Michigan southpaw Connor O'Halloran took the mound in Game 1 against Minnesota and went six innings. He surrendered four runs on six hits, walked four and struck out five but took the loss in a 4-0 defeat.

Rutgers swept Penn State with the help of four hits, a walk and a RBI from Hugh Pinkney.
