Official Okotoks Dawgs News Release

The Okotoks Dawgs defeated the Edmonton Prospects on Friday night by a score of 8-7.

The Dawgs took the lead early before the Prospects tied it in the top of ninth inning only for the Dawgs to walk it off in the bottom half of the inning.

With the victory, the Dawgs extended their winning streak to four games and now own a record of 37-12. They only need two victories to clinch home field advantage for the playoffs.

Brady Baltus started on the mound and tossed five complete innings, allowing one earned and four strikeouts. Relief pitching efforts from Rylan Penner (Blumenort, Man.) and Sam Stuhr followed Baltus’ solid outing, working to keep the Prospects batters at bay. Matt Wilkinson (Okotoks, Alta.) earned the win tonight for his relief efforts in the ninth.

The Dawgs’ offence was led by Tucker Zdunich (High River, Alta.) who went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and scored the winning run off a defensive error by the Prospects shortstop. Ricky Sanchez went 1-for-2 with an RBI and walked three times. Brendan Luther (Mississauga, Ont.) also had a multi-hit game and contributed an RBI.

The Dawgs will host the Lethbridge Bulls on Saturday for the first home doubleheader of the season. The first game at 2:05 p.m. will be the makeup game for July 2 before the regularly scheduled game at 7:05 p.m.
