The name of the game is usually pitching. And the name of the pitcher doing most of the work for the Mississauga Majors was right-hander Aiden Luther. Luther had two wins and a save as the Majors won the consolation title of the Battle of the Falls in Niagara N.Y. The Majors dropped the opener and then coach Mike Irving’s team won five straight.

The Canadian Junior Team resumes action south of the border in West Palm Beach, Fla., from April 13-23. Amateur scouts and college recruiters have not been able to evaluate Canada’s best high schoolers since March of 2020. However, there were plenty of scouts on hand when the Langley Blaze, with pick ups from across the land, visited pro camps to play first- and second-year pros, plus college teams in Phoenix, Ariz.

Nate Ochoa and Nate Kirkpatrick faced a first-rounder at Camelback ranch in Glendale, Ariz. And they both hit well. Ochoa (Burlington, Ont.) crushed a double and Kirkpatrick (Surrey, BC) of the Blaze hit a line drive single. Both were facing Dodgers’ first-round pick Maddux Bruns, who went 29th overall in the 2021 MLB draft.

Three of Canada’s top elite teams led the way on the Perfect Game All-Region honours for 2022. The Langley Blaze, Okotoks Dawgs and Toronto Mets each had four players named to the Canada/Puerto Rico Region All-Senior First Team.

The Mississauga Tigers had four players named to PG’s Canada/Puerto Rico Region All School Team Underclass First Team. That’s No. 1 of the 20 different teams who placed players on the First and Second Teams.
