DQ ® 13U National Western: British Columbia takes home gold!

Ottawa, ON – All three medals were on the line in Saskatoon on Sunday. The last day of competition at the DQ ® 13U National Western saw Saskatoon take on South Central for bronze and British Columbia and Sask Five face off for Gold. Here is a look at some of the action:
South Central 7 Saskatoon 6
South Central’s 6-run inning in the bottom of the 5th gave them the lead that would last them the game to win bronze at the championship. Starting pitcher Juni Song (Winnipeg, MB) earned the win for his team striking out 5 over 5 innings while allowing 6 runs on 9 hits. Saskatoon’s Boston Buckberger (Saskatoon, SK) tossed a complete game in the losing effort also recording 5 strikeouts. Dillan Thiessen (Carman, MB) went 2 for 3 with an RBI and a double to lead his team’s offense.
British Columbia 9 Sask Five 2
BC started off strong with a 4-run first inning and went on to hold that lead for the rest of the game. Starter Max Yuen (Burnaby, BC) was the winning pitcher in this one. Yuen struck out 9 and did allow a single earned run over 6.1 innings. Noah Thomas (Ladner, BC) was a key part in the win as he went 4 for 4 at the plate with a double and a triple and came around to score 3 times. Treyson Smith (Abbotsford, BC) hit a 3-run home run in the first inning that proved to be the difference maker. Sask Five’s Sam Boldt (Regina, SK) went 2 for 3 with 2 doubles in the loss.
