Blue Jays from Away
With only six games on the agenda, the Blue Jays’s clubs lost four of them despite an outstanding performance from Sean Reid-Foley in a win for the Dunedin Blue Jays.

Buffalo Bisons 2, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders 3
With Drew Hutchison in the major leagues with the Blue Jays and Roberto Hernandez released, it was  “bullpen day” for the Buffalo Bisons’ pitching staff in a 3-2 loss to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders. Pat Venditte got the start and threw three innings, allowing one run on four hits with three strikeouts. He was followed by Ben Rowen who also threw three innings but allowed two runs on six hits, taking the loss. Bobby Korecky, Danny Barnes and Ryan Tepera each threw a scoreless inning to finish off the game.

Despite eight hits, the batters could only muster two runs and both were unearned. Jesus Montero raised his batting average to .310 with a 2/4 day while Casey Kotchman was also 2/4.

Roster Notes: The Blue Jays released Roberto Hernandez

New Hampshire Fisher Cats 1, Binghamton Mets 3
After splitting a pair of double headers with the Binghamton Mets, the New Hampshire Fisher Cats lost a single game on Sunday with the bullpen allowing a strong performance by starter Shane Dawson to get away and the offense going quietly into the night. Dawson went five innings but needed 95 pitches, striking out seven and walking four, allowing one run on four hits. Tim Mayza took the loss, giving up a run on a hit and a walk in two innings, striking out two while Murphy Smith gave up a run in the eighth, allowing two hits and a walk.

Roemon Fields was 2/4 with three stolen bases and a run while Dwight Smith, Jr. was 1/3 with a walk.

Dunedin Blue Jays 1, Tampa Yankees 0
Sean Reid-Foley continues to churn through minor league hitters, throwing 7 1/3 one-hit innings at the Tampa Yankees in a 1-0 win. Reid-Foley threw 97 pitches, striking out nine batters and not walking anyone on the way to a game score of 91. Colton Turner finished the eighth inning, allowing a hit and striking out one while Carlos Ramirez saved his ninth game, giving up a hit and a walk with one strikeout.

The Blue Jays got just enough offense to win, thanks to a couple of doubles by Michael De La Cruz and Andrew Guillotte and singles from Aaron Attaway (who scored the run) and Richard Urena (who drove in the run).

Lansing Lugnuts 3, South Bend Cubs 5
Two home runs from Max Pentecost weren’t enough for the Lugnuts whose bullpen allowed four runs in the eighth inning to let the South Bend Cubs come back to win 5-3. Pentecost was 2/4 with two solo home runs while Justin Atkinson hit a double.

Ryan Borucki had another solid start, going 7 1/3 innings and allowing three runs on eight hits but, on the bright side, he didn’t walk anyone and struck out eight. Starlyn Suriel allowed both inherited runners to score and allowed two more of his own (one earned) on two hits in 2/3 of an inning.

Player of the Game: Max Pentecost

Vancouver Canadians 0, Spokane Indians 3
Justin Maese was taken out of the game after facing just three batters (one of whom came around to score) in the Vancouver Canadians’ 3-0 loss to the Spokane Indians. Griffin Glaude relieved Maese and allowed two more runs (one earned) over 2 2/3 innings. Matthew Smoral had his best outing of the year, throwing three scoreless innings on four hits and a walk with two strikeouts. Gabe Noyalis threw two scoreless frames with a walk and Nick Hartman had a 1-2-3 inning to finish the game.

The Canadians had six hits with Cavan Biggio raising his batting average to .326 with a 2/4 outing.

Bluefield Blue Jays 8, Elizabethton Twins 6
Deadlocked at 6-6, Bluefield rallied for two runs in the top of the 11th thanks to a Juandy Mendoza two-run double that brought home the winning runs in an 8-6 victory over the Elizabethton Twins. Mendoza was 2/3 with two doubles, two walks, two RBI and a run on the night while Jesus Severino was 3/4 with two walks, two RBI and a run. Kalik May also had two hits including a triple, and a walk with two runs and Ridge Smith was 2/4 with a double, a walk and a run.

Hansel Rodriguez started, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits including a home a run while striking out five over six innings. Christian Cox went a scoreless inning but Mike Estevez allowed two more runs on a hit and two walks after Chris Hall couldn’t hold the door closed, coming in with the bases loaded. Hall didn’t give up any runs of his own in two innings, striking out four and picking up the win while Hunter Barnett closed things out, getting the final out of the game for his first save.
