Thornhill loses opener, reels off five straight to win
Thornhill Captures 2016 Vaughan tournament Title

The Thornhill Reds captured the Vaughan Vikings Invitational Tournament yesterday at Vaughan Grove defeating the Newmarket Hawks by a slim 7-6 margin in a very well played, entertaining final game. The Reds got a great start from RHP Josh Presutti as he threw into the 7th inning giving up a lead off double before exiting the game with the score 7-5. He gave up all 5 runs in his 6+ innings of work. Eric Wakeman followed him to the mound and gave up around run to widdle the lead down to 7-6 but he shut the door after that to earn the save.
Ryan Aida drew the start for Newmarket and threw well giving up four runs. The trio of Mark West, Vic Simon, and Ryan Fedrigo followed him to the mound after that. The starter Aida took the loss on this day. Dan Nicoletta had a two-run triple for the Hawks while Troy McLoughlin had a solo HR in a losing effort.
The Reds earned their berth in the final by defeating the Burlington Brants in the quarter-finals by a score of 9-7. Yusuke Oshima earned the win on the mound for Thornhill. They then defeated the Ilderton Red Army by a score of 15-5 in the semi-finals in a mercy shortened 5 inning game. Noah Frankel grabbed the win the this game.
For the Hawks, they defeated the Strathroy Royals in the quarter-finals by a score of 5-1. LHP Brad Crone grabbed the win on the mound. In the semi-finals, the Hawks locked horns with the powerful Etobicoke Rangers and won easily by a score of 12-4. Starter Alex Bruce was the beneficiary of all the offence grabbing the win on the hill while big Dan Telford had a HR to pace the offence.
