Rousseau Starts, Ends Triple Play At Hobbs

C J.P. Rousseau (Blainville, Que.) was in the midst of the action as the New Mexico Thunderbirds edged the Western Texas Westerners 7-6 in the opener of a doubleheader in Hobbs, N.M.

Rousseau had two singles and knocked in a run.

And oh yes, he was in the midst of a strike-em-out, throw-em out triple play.

Never seen one.

Neither have I, take a look … as the 2-4-2 unfolds in the video in the second panel. 

With runners on first and third, Rousseau caught strike three (one out), threw out the runner at second (two out) and the infielder returned the throw home as Rousseau applied the tag (three out.)

New Mexico won the nitecap 10-4.

RHP Jean-Francois Dionne (Trois-Rivers Que.) took the loss in a 7-5 setback to Western Texas. He allowed six runs on 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings.

LHP Fernando Fernandez-Beltran (Montreal, Que.) allowed three runs — one earned — on five hits in 5 1/3 innings striking out six as the T-Birds scored twice in the eighth for a 6-4 win to take three of four. Rousseau had a single.

On the season … Rousseau is hitting .545 (12-for-22) in nine games with three doubles and four RBIs … Dionne is 2-2 with a 4.82 ERA in six starts with five walks and 16 strikeouts in 28 innings … Fernandez-Beltran is 1-2 with a 5.31 ERA in five starts. He has walked 14 and struck out 19 in 20 1/3 innings.

And on the season for WTC … LHP Matthew Glasmann (Windsor Ont.) is 0-3 with a 4.58 ERA in three start, with two complete games. He has walked three and struck out nine in 17 2/3 innings … C Mitchell Hazlett (Riverview, N.B.) is hitting .231 (9-for-39) in 15 games with two doubles, a triple and three RBIs.
