LHP Jeff Degano (Surrey, BC) of the Indiana State Sycamores was named to the National College Hall of Fame pitcher of the year watch list. Degano is a graduate of the Whalley Chiefs, like former first rounder Adam Loewen.

Brett Siddall (Windsor, Ont.) hit his 10th homer as the Canisius Griffs lost 10-9 to the Monmouth Hawks.

Gerry Lister is a colleague of mine who retired from the Victoria Fire Department as a Battalion Chief a couple of years before I did.

We played baseball and soccer against each other during our teens and we then played together in North Battleford Saskatchewan in the Northern Saskatchewan Baseball League in our early 20s. He played for Team Saskatchewan in the Canadian National Amateur tournament in 1970 or 1971 in Nova Scotia before you and I met the Kingston Ponies team in Edmunston NB in 1973.

There’s a new starting lineup for the Victoria HarbourCats, in terms of the West Coast League’s ownership structure.

Bhootan LLC, which has led the HarbourCats since last fall under the primary guidance of Matthew Stoudt, has agreed to terms that will transfer ownership of the WCL franchise to a company called Shwing Batter Investment Group. The four principles of that group are Ken Swanson, Jim Swanson, Richard Harder and John Wilson.

Don Dennee got his start in youth baseball pretty much like a lot of fathers: his son wanted to play.

Unlike most fathers, though, Dennee took it several steps further. Not a lot of dads, for instance, plan their vacations around grass-growing season, so they can water the ball fields where children play.
