TORONTO— The Toronto Blue Jays and free-agent pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu have come to terms on a four-year, $80-million contract.
The deal reportedly includes a full no-trade clause and no opt-outs for either side.
Ryu, 32 , has a career 2.98 ERA and 1.164 WHIP. He has spent his entire six-year career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, which includes two World Series appearances.
Last season, the right-handed pitcher posted a 14-5 record, with a 2.32 ERA in 182 2/3 innings pitched. He led the NL in ERA, ERA+ (179) and walks per nine innings (1.2). For his career with the Dodgers, Ryu is 54-33.
It was reported this week by Jon Heyman of the MLB Network that the Toronto Blue Jays had tabled competitive offers to Ryu.
A groin injury kept the veteran left-hander out of the start of the 2018 season, but he was able to remain healthy throughout the entirety of the 2019 season. Ryu’s fastball is generally in the 90-mph range, but he has command of all five of his pitches, making him one of the sought-after pitchers on the free agent market.
Ryu is the sixth player to be added to the Blue Jays this offseason. RHP Chase Anderson, RHP Tanner Roark, RHP Shun Yamaguchi, RHPP Anthony Bass and INF Travis Shaw are the other additions.
